Lung Cancer Awareness Month:
A Community United
This November, we proved what’s possible when we work together. LCAM was a testament to the strength of our community and the power of partnerships. Together we honored survivors, brought education and resources to many communities, raised funds to fuel advances in research and treatments, and shared powerful stories.
People across the globe united to raise awareness that Anyone with Lungs Can Get Lung Cancer. From national campaigns to local events, we ignited change through our collective efforts.
Together, we:
- Started eye-opening conversations and challenged stigma and misconceptions with our #AnyoneWithLungs campaign
- Highlighted the importance of screening and early detection, helping more people take that critical step
- Showcased lung cancer as a survivable disease, thanks to groundbreaking research and treatments
- Reached thousands of people by sharing real stories and myth-busting facts
None of this would have been possible without the efforts of many. To our community, sponsors, resource fair partners, donors, and volunteers: thank you. You have made an impact that extends far beyond LCAM.
Take a look at what we accomplished and let’s continue this momentum into 2025. Together, we are transforming what it means to be diagnosed and live with lung cancer!
Anyone with Lungs Can Get Lung CancerSM
We kicked off our #AnyoneWithLungs campaign during LCAM to spread the message that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer.
In the 30 days of November, we shared lung cancer survivors’ personal stories through video, social media posts with lung cancer facts, many photos submitted by community members raising awareness, and the impact anyone can make.
Although November has come to a close, the #AnyoneWithLungs campaign is just getting started. In 2025 we will share more stories that show the real faces of lung cancer and how awareness that everyone is at risk can lead to earlier diagnoses and better outcomes. Email [email protected] to share your story. Every voice is important and helps to raise awareness.
You can watch survivor stories and share lung cancer facts from LUNGevity’s social media accounts: Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, TikTok, BlueSky, and X.
ALCSI Mobilizes Communities Nationwide
With 43 of its chapters nationwide, the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (ALCSI) rallied over 1,100 participants to host creative events raising awareness for lung cancer during LCAM. One highlight was at Rice University, where their Breathe Deep Anywhere event welcomed more than 200 attendees and featured local health leaders including Houston Methodist and MD Anderson.
Thanks to ALCSI’s efforts, close to $5,000 was raised to help support lung cancer research, with events gaining coverage in six major press outlets. The dedication of these young leaders to empower communities and promote screening and early detection is truly inspiring. Thank you, ALCSI, for making a difference with us!
Breathe Deep Anywhere: Coast to Coast Awareness
Seventy-three teams consisting of nearly 1,000 people across the country hosted events, gatherings, and activities to raise awareness for lung cancer as part of Breathe Deep Anywhere.
One lung cancer survivor, Kelley Sciko, rallied her community in North Ridgeville, OH, and started a Breathe Deep TOGETHER walk with her team of over 70 people, called "Kelley's Krusaders."
Kelley shared, "Hosting the event meant I got to share my journey with the people I love, and I also got to connect with some other lung cancer survivors in our community to show them they are not alone! It helps my heart so much to know that I could help make a difference by raising awareness and funds, and I was overwhelmed by the number of people who showed up to support! I can't wait to see what we can do next year!"
You can host a Breathe Deep Anywhere event – anytime! Learn more.
