WASHINGTON, DC (November 2, 2023) – To kick off activities recognizing Lung Cancer Awareness Month in November, LUNGevity Foundation, the nation’s leading lung cancer-focused nonprofit organization, today launched its new educational video and social media campaign.

This year’s video builds on the success of a series of previous public service and social media-driven educational campaigns for the lung cancer community. The campaign weaves together the diverse stories of people living with lung cancer to demonstrate that anyone can get lung cancer and that, thanks to advances in research, people can now live with the disease.

“Through the individual stories featured in this campaign, we want to show that there is no one face of lung cancer,” said Linda Wenger, Chief Marketing Officer at LUNGevity Foundation. “LUNGevity is transforming how lung cancer is diagnosed and treated so that more people can thrive like the survivors showcased in our video.”

The awareness campaign will leverage both paid and organic social media channels to disseminate these messages and will direct individuals to LUNGevity’s website (  for additional resources.

This year’s educational video campaign received support from AstraZeneca, Sanofi, as well as Gilead and Regeneron.

About Lung Cancer in the US

  • About 1 in 16 Americans will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime.
  • More than 238,000 people in the US will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year.
  • About 60%-65% of all new lung cancer diagnoses are among people who have never smoked or are former smokers.
  • Lung cancer takes more lives than the next three leading cancers (colorectal, breast, and prostate) combined.
  • Only 25% of all people diagnosed with lung cancer will survive 5 years or more, but if it’s caught before it spreads, the chance of 5-year survival improves dramatically.
