CHICAGO (August 13, 2013) – LUNGevity Foundation today announced its sponsorship of the inaugural National Women’s Survivor Convention for female cancer survivors. Held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, from August 22 to 24, the National Women’s Survivors Convention will bring together survivors, cancer clinicians, authors, and motivational speakers to educate, share experiences, and inspire hope.

“We are honored to be part of the first-ever convention for female cancer survivors,” said Andrea Stern Ferris, president and chairman, LUNGevity Foundation. “Lung cancer will claim the lives of more women that breast, ovarian, and uterine cancer combined. The inaugural National Women’s Survivor Convention is a groundbreaking occasion for female cancer survivors, and we are proud to further our mission of turning months into years for lung cancer survivors. LUNGevity is committed to supporting early detection and treatment research that will save thousands of wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends.”

Convention attendees will participate in empowerment sessions, panel discussions, and a Celebrate Survivors 5K Run/Walk, where LUNGevity will be present to celebrate lung cancer survivors. Recreational activities include makeovers, a Survivors Marketplace Expo, a fashion show, exercise classes, and a Salute to Survivors concert at the Grand Ole Opry, featuring Martina McBride.

LUNGevity is the sponsor of the Red Carpet Live event that launches the convention on August 22. The Little River Band, celebrity songwriters, television personalities, and convention attendees will interact and engage in an evening of celebration and entertainment. The opening event will set the tone for a weekend focused on empowering, educating and connecting women whose lives have been touched by cancer. LUNGevity special guest and lung cancer survivor, Jill Feldman, will share her story during the Red Carpet Live event.

In addition, LUNGevity will host a Lung Cancer Survivors Luncheon at Fuse Sportsclub on Friday, August 23 from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. This gathering will create strong connections among lung cancer survivors. Lung cancer survivors who wish to attend may RSVP to Katie Brown (kbrown@lungevity.org).
